I think it is going to cost each member a little more than a couple thou to buy. I think the cost to make GIR back in 1998 was something like 21 mil. What we need is some one like Bud beer to take over and make it into a decent track that people would like to come to; if you compare it to other tracks that NASCAR go to GIR is a dump

Kind of like the idea of MCRA taking over but think it a little to far out of touch for our club to get the funds; but stranger things have happened

I have to wonder if the club could get a stimulus grant as a nonprofit to keep gateway open and save /increase jobs in a depressed area.other clubs have bought /invested in tracks in the past, makes one wonder.cooprate sponsors are a possibility also.the state uses gateway as a training facility for the state troopers i wonder if they will be willing to lose that in the long run or if they will take steps to keep it open.one thing for certain it will make for an interesting off season.I wonder if the club could get a meeting with management and get some answers,if they have any that is.

Heard Kenny Wallace on KMOX yesterday talking about Gateway. He's convinced that they shouldn't have tried to squeeze a 1.25 mile track into that amount of land. Said if they would have gone with a smaller track the parking and in/out access wouldn't have been such a big issue. He's convinced that those two aspects made it almost impossible for the track to succeed.

I have seen the lay out for the Hillsboro track over a year ago; have they even acquired any land yet or got any backers. The plan looked like it was going to be like the set up at Autobahn

I read some where that Dover reduced the price for GIR to $2.3 mil. which is about the value of the land it sits on. The bad part is GIR pays Madison county $2 mil in taxes every year.

Sorry for the dump statement Karen as it is the only track we have but compared to other Nascar tracks it is a little lacking into putting the fans first to make sure they what to come back

This is not a great piece of news but we could see about other tracks and maybe the possibility of sharing some track days with other clubs.

Atlanta Motor Speedway after having 2 NASCAR races for the last 50 years will host only 1 in 2011. The track owners are taking a big hit with this economy and I wonder how hard it will hit the motorcycle racing next year. We can only hope things will get better

Last I heard today from my brother, who has some insight, says that the oval will be closed next year and the drag strip will be open for all 2011 events. After that, he could not say but, the track is definately up for sale.

If the oval closes, will the road course stay open?
